Full-Service Bankruptcy Lawyer Serving Louisville, KY
At Kurtz Law Office, we specialize in bankruptcy law but are also adept at handling cases in the following practice areas:
Commercial Real Estate Tax Appeals
Since commercial properties are assessed and taxed at a considerably higher rate than residential property, when you see a significant increase in the assessed value of your property, you will also see a corresponding increase in your property taxes. At the Christopher Kurtz Law Office, we have a positive record of successful challenges for commercial real estate tax increases. We can help you save hundreds—or possibly even thousands or hundreds of thousands—of dollars in annual taxes by filing a commercial real estate tax appeal. Assessors use different methods to determine the fair market value of your property, including the income approach, the market sales approach, or the cost approach. Attorney Christopher Kurtz can address any of these approaches in a knowledgeable manner.
Wills & Estates
Today, many adults feel they are too busy to think about an estate plan, that they are too young to consider an estate plan, or they simply do not want to think about a time when they might not be here to watch over their loved ones. Other times, a person may feel he or she doesn’t have sufficient assets to think about an estate plan. In reality, people from all walks of life can benefit from some level of an estate plan, and while you may think it is too soon, or you are too young or too busy, it is really never too early to begin formalizing your wishes for the future of your assets, your property, and your family. Whether you have a small estate or a more complex estate, having your estate plan in order can truly save your loved ones from spending extra money and facing extra stress in the future. Attorney Christopher Kurtz will consider your unique circumstances when devising solutions for your estate. We can prepare wills, trusts, and other estate plan documents and can help your family avoid expensive, time-consuming probate.
Real Estate
Like bankruptcy, real estate transactions can be fraught with legal complexities. Real estate transactions are likely the most expensive investments you will make during your lifetime. However, there are many laws specific to real estate which most people are not familiar with. A real estate attorney is a professional in all legal matters related to real property. Your real estate attorney can prepare and review purchase agreements, mortgage documents, title documents, and transfer documents. A real estate attorney oversees the purchase and sale of real property, ensuring the proper procedures are followed regarding the acquisition of property as well as what you are legally allowed to do with that property. In the case of a real estate dispute, such as a chain of title, lot line issues, or other problems with contracts, your real estate attorney will provide solid legal representation, helping you solve all your real estate issues. Since every real estate transaction involves a specific set of circumstances and goals, Christopher Kurtz works closely with each client to clearly understand the unique details, tailoring his services to meet the goals of the client.
Personal Injury
If you have been injured due to the negligence of another individual or entity, you are likely going through a difficult time. You are injured, possibly unable to return to work, watching your medical bills mount, and facing an insurance company that does not want to pay you what your claim is worth. Understanding the legal issues surrounding your accident and dealing with insurance companies can be particularly overwhelming when you are struggling with physical and emotional trauma. Christopher Kurtz understands your situation and will evaluate your case, then help you understand your legal rights and options. Attorney Kurtz will answer all your questions, helping you decide whether pursuing legal action is in your best interests. We believe you deserve a solid advocate by your side after being injured by a negligent party.
Large Commercial Litigation
Commercial litigation requires an attorney who has a thorough understanding of business law. Christopher Kurtz has the experience, knowledge, and skill set necessary to take on large commercial litigation issues. Attorney Kurtz represents plaintiffs and defendants in commercial litigation, with clients including small businesses, individual entrepreneurs, and large corporations. When our firm takes your case, we are in it for the long haul. Christopher Kurtz will devote his energy and resources to achieving a favorable result for each and every client with a large commercial litigation issue. We can handle such issues as breach of contract, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty and partnership, and other closely held business disputes.

- Chapter 13 Bankruptcy—Chapter 13 bankruptcy is also known as debt reorganization or wage-earners bankruptcy. Chapter 13 bankruptcy can help you pay your debts while protecting your assets. We can stop foreclosures, repossessions, garnishments, tax levies, and tax sales and get you on the road to financial recovery.
- Chapter 7 Bankruptcy—Chapter 7 bankruptcy is sometimes known as liquidation bankruptcy and can offer those who are drowning in debt a fresh start via a discharge of debts. We will help you keep any property that is exempt under the bankruptcy code while working toward wiping the slate clean of your debts, essentially giving you a financial “do-over.”
